Excessive acetaminophen (APAP) is the main cause of drug-induced acute liver failure, and its pathogenesis has not been elucidated, and there is a lack of effective preventive and therapeutic drugs. Hesperetin (Hes) is a rich flavanone found in citrus peel, which has good biological activity and is a potential drug for treating liver injury. Due to the poor water solubility of Hes, this study prepared mixed micelles loaded with Hes (Hes MMs) using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K17) and poloxamer 188. The research conducted by Professor Guo Chuanlong's team at Qingdao University of Science and Technology shows that the mitochondrial DNA cGAS STING pathway is involved in APAP induced acute liver injury, and He MMs may be a potential drug for treating APAP induced acute liver injury.

The study was published on November 15, 2023 in the international journal Colloids and Surfaces B: Bioenterfaces, titled 'Mixed micelles loaded with Hesperidin protection against acetaminophen induced acute liver injury by inhibiting the mtDNA cGAS STING pathway'.
